2025 Dissertation：The Missing Pieces? Capabilities for Arts & Culture! Rethinking Arts Education and Cultural Participation in Hong Kong
How do people come to feel that culture belongs to them?
This dissertation examines the gap between Hong Kong’s ambitions as a global cultural hub and the everyday experiences of its citizens. Through the lens of arts education and the Capability Approach, it argues that cultural participation is shaped not only by infrastructure and access, but by an individual’s confidence, curiosity, and sense of belonging. The research advocates for a more people-centred cultural policy that places participation, learning, and creative development at its core.

During my research on the Cattle Depot Artist Village, I observed that the absence of a centralised organisation often made it difficult for visitors to fully understand the site's history, artistic practices, and cultural value. To address this, I developed the idea of a self-guided booklet that could serve as an accessible interpretive tool, helping visitors form a stronger connection with the village and its distinctive identity.

Workshops & Facilitation
Beyond illustration, I love bringing people together through hands-on, low-pressure art experiences — where the goal isn't a perfect result, but a moment of calm and self-expression.
I've run Pastel Nagomi Art and other creative workshops in Hong Kong for mixed-age groups, adapting activities on the spot for different skill levels, group sizes, and settings — from classrooms to community events.
What I bring to a session:
- Comfortable facilitating groups of all ages, from young children to adults
- Able to scale difficulty and pacing in real time depending on who's in the room
- Focused on creating a warm, judgment-free space where anyone can create something they're proud of
